Learning to be a talk to your family during the quarantine.

Regardless what has happened or how you got here, the thing is your reading this. Maybe because you’re just reading, needing ideas or this is the first time you have been there for your child or children. They keep saying keep your kid on a schedule and they should have 3 meals and 2 snacks and it just getting so confusing.

Here are some ideas for conversation starters because hey, we all don’t sit down and talk with our families. So these ideas may, can ease the weirdness that some may be feeling.

We all have different home lives and styles. But I am going to go with the way I was raised just because I know it. We sat down as a family when I was a child and with our first 2 kids. Now we have a TV trays and we all sit together in front of the TV. On occasion we will eat together at the dining room table or outside but for the most part we are in front of the TV. So if you are looking for some ideas to turn off the TV and get to talking to your family, here is a great way to come together come up with some topics and write down some questions. I will list 5 examples. But you can have as many question as you would like.

1. Favorite place in the world. 2. How can we help a family in need? 3. What was the best thing that happened today? 4. What are some things we can do around the house to help tidy up? 5. What books have you read while home?

I hope this gave you some ideas on how to start some conversations with your family.

Keep kids on a schedule while home!!

Kids’ Discovery Parents:

It’s really, really important to keep your kids on a schedule while we are at home. It’s even good for you as an adult. We all work better on a schedule. Schedules help children know what is coming up next. I would even suggest setting a timer on your phone. This will help you know when to move to the next activity. Below, I have given a sample of a wide range schedule. You can adjust it to your need job depending on the ages of the children.

Wake up , wash up, get changed, brush teeth

8:30- breakfast – at this time we can teach our children how important it is to wash our hands, say our prayers and work on those table manner of saying please and Thank you. Then after our breakfast let them join in on cleaning up.

10:00. Let’s get out our homework or do something educational. You can read books, practice colors. Learn the 50 states. You can even ask your child what are some interesting things they would like to learn about. Memorize bible verses. Start with John 3 :16.

11:00 Free time. It’s their free time.

12:30 do some type of fun science experiment. Pinterest has tons of ideas. Go on a scavenger hunt, inside or outside. Bird watch. Plant flowers, pick up trash off the street. What ever it is, use that opportunity to teach your child about taking care of our earth.

12:00 lunch

1:30. Read a book

2:30 free time

3:30 afternoon snack

4:00 home work again

5:00 free time

6:00 Dinner. Very important to go back to old style everyone hang out talk about fears, anxieties. Just don’t forget to be thankful because we are blessed.

7:00 bath time and brush those teeth

8:00 story time

9:00 TV time.

9:30 lights out but not before our prayers.

This is just an example. It will help you now while you’re home and will also be easier on the child when they return to school or daycare.
